HDMI 1.3a vs. 1.4a HDMI question?
I'm thinking of buying a surround sound system. Onyoko has some good home system to start, but I'm torn between a model with an HDMI 1.3a cable pass-through and a 1.4a. I do not understand the difference between these two things. 1.3a HDMI pass-through says I need a connection separate audio for HDMI devices are not compatible with the exchanger, but 1.4a misses a pass-through feature. Does this mean that with HDMI 1.4a not go through, so you can not use devices that are not high definition, or means no "pass-through, and audio play correctly even something no HD inputs (like my Wii)? What is the difference between going through and 1.3a 1.4a anyway? thanks!
It is difficult to know what exact models you are talking about in your question. Eliminate any doubt in my response. I think the sound system HDMI 1.3a does not read any of the contents of the connection HDMI. This means that simply pass through any video content and audio to the screen or projector. Acts as a switch and nothing else. To audio output speaker system, you need an analog (red / white) or digital (coaxial or optical) HDMI cable separate connection to do that. An example of a Onkyo receiver with this feature set is the TX-SR307. I believe that the sound system has HDMI 1.4a read the contents of the HDMI connection. You can intercept the part of audio signal, decode it and send it to the system speakers. Also passes along the video content to the screen. You do not need to include the connection separate audio. This would be like the new TX-SR308. For video and audio in your Wii in any of the above receivers, you have to run component video to your display and audio connection to your receiver. more expensive units will be upconverting component video and HDMI that (this is called "conversion analog up ') so it is not necessary that the components of your HDTV.
