PCM + Dolby Digital EX is better than PCM alone?
I have my PS3 connected to my receiver via HDMI 7.1 and PS3 set to PCM not indirect. The receiver can decode Dolby True HD, DTS HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital Ex ES, Dolby Digital, Dolby Prologic II, Dolby Prologic IIx, Neo, 6. When I watch BluRay movies, my receiver said PCM + Dolby Digital EX and I can switch to PCM + Dolby Prologic IIx is the best? And it is better that the PCM alone? Blu-ray movies I watch are either Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio or Linear PCM 5.1 uncompressed. I have the same thing for any of these, but the PS3 on screen saying that your game its coresponding codec (Dolby True HD, DTS HD Master Audio, 5.1 PCM)
Dolby EX and Dolby Prologic IIx are similar technologies. Dolby EX 5.1 will be signals and convert them into signals of 7.1, but is generally used recorded only for films specifically for Dolby EX. Prologic IIx have anything from 2.0 to 5.1 and convert it to 7.1 (though not as good as the real 7.1 recordings). If you're playing a Blu-ray with 5.1-channel PCM (or TrueHD) or give you the sound of its two rear channels without sacraficing sound quality for the rest of your system. I'm not sure which is better, but most people stay with Logic IIx unless a specific soundtrack Dolby EX. Try both and use the one that sounds best you.
