I’m always tinkering with my home theater setup.
Many home theater owners will tell you the same thing. Your home setup is never quite complete. No matter how much equipment you have and how well you have it arranged, there will always be something to add. Why do we persist in this behavior? It’s simple; everything we add makes the whole experience better. Accessories are the things that make your home theater more like a movie theater. Most accessories are either electronic components that make the sound and video better, or non-technical items that focus on comfort and ambiance.
The concept of the home theater began with the introduction of large screen televisions. In those days, putting together a home theater basically involved rolling in one of those large, bulky projection TV systems. Now, a large screen TV by itself doesn’t make a home theater. You must add the right accessories to complete the entire package. Today’s home theaters go beyond a simple viewing of movies and sports on a big screen. Modern home theater owners are going for a total experience.
The trend in home theater systems has been to bring the movie theater into the home. Well maybe not the sticky floor and the random popcorn. What I’m talking about is the lighting, the décor, comfortable seating and remarkable sound that rivals reality.
Actually, enhancing the audio is one area where people spend a lot of time (and money). More speakers, better speakers, better speaker wires, speaker stands that isolate the speaker from the floor. The list is endless (at least you’ll never get to the end of it). But it makes sense. Why would you want to have an awe-inspiring picture that isn’t matched with a jaw-dropping soundtrack.
So, like I said in the beginning-adding accessories to your home theater is never complete. But every time I add something, the whole system gets a little bit better. And I believe that’s what makes the whole process so much fun.
